AED programs in the workplace protect your business.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recommends AEDs, even though they are not required by law. OSHA states that AEDs “have a proven track record of saving lives in public places as well as in the workplace. They can do the same for you and your employees. Please consider installing AEDs in your workplace.”
The American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) states that an “AED is but one of the elements necessary for such a program. To comprehensively address the prevention of SCA morbidity and mortality among working age adults, a complete AED program is recommended.”

Why Businesses Need AEDs
Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) can strike anyone, anytime. Every year in the U.S., over 350,000 people experience out-of-hospital cardiac arrest—around 10,000 per year occur in the workplace.
More than 50% of people cannot locate an AED at work, and 55% of workers do not get CPR and AED training from their employer. This means that the majority of employees do not know when an AED is nearby or that it is a valuable tool that anyone can use to save a life.
The only effective treatment for SCA is immediate CPR and defibrillation.
Every minute counts—survival chances drop by 10% for every minute without defibrillation, and brain damage can begin within 8 minutes. With an average EMS response time of 7 minutes or more, having an AED on-site is critical.
The average amount of time spent in the workplace per day is around 8 hours. Workplaces with AEDs and AED programs are helping protect everyone in the building, the entire time they are there.
With a well-implemented AED program and long-term AED management, SCA survival rates can increase from just 10% to over 50%.
AEDs don’t just protect the employees who are in the workplace each day. They also safeguard customers, visitors, maintenance workers, and community members who are in the vicinity.
Via Heart Project manages AED programs in over 1,400 locations across the country, with more than 3,000 AEDs under our care.
With years of specialized experience in workplace-based AED programs, we make it easy to protect your staff, customers, and visitors. From program implementation to maintenance, we ensure your workplace is prepared to respond to cardiac emergencies with confidence.
